Director of Volunteer Services
Grand River Meals on Wheels
New Castle, Colorado
Kaaren (pronounced car- wren) comes from an outdoor education background, but in 2008 moved seamlessly into Director of Volunteer Services for Grand River Health (GRH), for a rural critical access hospital in Rifle, Colorado. She received her Bachelor of Science from Oregon State and her Master of Education from University of Texas in 2000. Kaaren went on to receive her CVA, Certificate of Volunteer Administration in 2015. Like many rural hospitals, she wears many hats and her position includes overseeing Grand River Meals on Wheels (GRMOW), GRH Volunteer Services, GRH Scholarships and more. Now with almost two decades of overseeing the Meals on Wheels program for half of a western Colorado county, GRMOW has grown 1500%. Writing grants, soliciting community and employee donations, and running fundraising events are all part of her daily activities. In 2026, GRMOW will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary – so let the fun begin!
